The Models, Layout, Virtual Art, Art, and Facial Models departments at Weta Digital have been integral to some of the most memorable and complex environments and characters in recent cinema history. From Laketown and Smaug, to snowy forests and highly evolved apes, to distant planets and avenging superheros, the artists have been responsible for adding a unique level of realism to the characters and in the way they perform and interact with the environment around them.
The primary responsibilities of an Assets Pipeline Technical Director are the design, development, maintenance and support of the core pipeline and related applications that are used by those departments. The candidate should have highly developed technical skills, with an understanding and focus on elegant artist workflows and infrastructure efficiency. They will need an ability to debug problems in a complex system with minimal guidance and they will need to deliver elegant solutions which integrate the requirements of artists, other departments, and other development teams. Candidates will work closely with artists, enabling their work to be delivered as efficiently as possible, while also considering the impact of changes on the wider facility. In addition, they will respond to both upstream and downstream changes and requests, in particular ensuring smooth transitions to new workflows and technologies against the backdrop of multiple projects running simultaneously in the studio.
