The Planning Producer is a central role in network short and long term planning.
The Planning producer is responsible for keeping the master editorial calendar up to date at all times. This producer is responsible for organizing internal information and culling information from social media, external media outlets, wire services and online calendars. The producer is also responsible for working closely with the Sr. Enterprise Editor and the Director of News coverage to update next day and week ahead planning, organize hit time requests, and input calendar information into a weekly document. The role works cross platform and across the organization. There is also opportunity to produce and write daily hits, as well as manage new initiatives. The producer will also often work closely with graphics, shows and digital teams on branding and promotions.
• Must be willing and able to work flexible hours, under tight deadline pressure, including breaking news.
• Must be able to work all shifts, including weekends and overnights. Must be able to work additional hours beyond scheduled shift with little or no notice, if needed.
• BA degree in journalism or business; or an equivalent degree
• At least 2 years of television production experience
• Exceptional editorial skills: ability to recognize stories with high potential for provocative, compelling television
• Knowledge of current events, politics and pop culture
• Highly organized and detail-oriented
• Strong analytical skills
• Exemplary interpersonal skills
• Ability to work collaboratively across functions and levels
• Proactive thinker / self-starter
• Ability to multi-task and meet tight deadlines under pressure
