The Mastering Supervisor reports to the Manager of Content Mastering which is a group within GMO Content Management. Content Mastering oversees the creation of archival assets for newly released content and for re-mastered and restored content from NBCUniversal’s 106 year old film library. This individual will be responsible for overseeing mastering projects for new features as they’re delivered from Post Production and re-mastering projects for library features and episodic TV content. The Mastering Supervisor will partner with filmmakers and post-facilities as well as mastering coordinators to determine best processes and elements to use for mastering, re-mastering and restoration. The role is responsible for ensuring that the mastering/re-mastering process produces content that meets technical specifications while maintaining proper aesthetic look. The position requires strong technical knowledge and strong interpersonal skills. With respect to the company’s archival assets the Mastering Supervisor is the critical link between Content Mastering and the filmmakers.Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Oversee the creation of archival elements
- Perform element evaluation and determine best elements to use for restoration purposes
- Screen elements to determine intended creative look
- Develop, collaborate and execute projects within teams in the organization
- Serve as a key subject matter expert in legacy post-production processes as well as the latest digital video/audio standards and formats
- Oversee color correction and additional processes to ensure technical and creative standards are met
- Verify newly created archival elements meet technical standards from start to finish and compile reports of issues
- Review rejections and advise coordinators and manager as to any issues identified
- Consult with vendors on look of shows and oversee talent sessions
- Answer questions from divisions regarding technical issues
- Oversee screenings with and for divisions to determine best sources for use
• Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Minimum 5 years industry related experience.
• Expertise in HDR and DolbyVision mastering as well as 4K restoration and HD mastering.
• Effective problem solver able to assess and adapt to changing priorities and strategies.
• A thorough knowledge of film, video and file workflows and technologies.
• QC experience preferred.
